New alliance between COSBOA and Family Business Australia

July 16, 2019

The Council of Small Business Organisations today announced a newly formed alliance with Family Business Australia (FBA). The partnership is set to provide greater representation to the small and family business sectors across Australia in delivering joint advocacy and representation at government level. The alliance will allow the two organisations to work closely together while maintaining their autonomy.

Peter Strong, CEO of COSBOA, said “the passion and the capacity of family business is well known. Together with the broader small business community, they aren’t just a key part of the economy and employment; they also make our sports and welfare sectors viable and add to our diverse and colourful culture.”

Mr Strong added “There is significant overlap between the two communities, and many of the issues faced by small businesses are the same as or similar to those faced by family businesses. Indeed, by forming this alliance we’re reflecting the approach taken by the Office of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, who recognise these synergies and represent both small and family businesses together.”

Greg Griffith, CEO of Family Business Australia, said “I strongly believe as the peak body representing the family business sector, the need for greater dialogue and engagement with government is critical. This alliance means that both organisations can continue the fight for the biggest group of employers in the country and those who have an integral part in our rich economic history. COSBOA will ensure that FBA and its members are well represented across current, new and emerging issues that need to be addressed to support the family business community.”

Mr Strong concluded: “I look forward to working with FBA to advocate for our communities. The big story will always be about small businesses and family businesses, who they are, what they have done, and what they still do for Australia.”
