The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) has submitted its formal response to the Australian Government’s review of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO).
Small businesses are navigating an increasingly challenging operating environment, with rising costs, record insolvencies, and lingering pressures from natural disasters and the pandemic. The ASBFEO plays a critical role in supporting Australia’s 2.5 million small businesses by providing impartial dispute resolution, essential advocacy, policy input, and industry-specific guidance.
In the submission, COSBOA calls for the government to restore the ASBFEO’s funding and expand its capacity to meet the growing demands of small businesses. The ASBFEO’s work in amplifying small business voices, facilitating low-cost mediation, and delivering targeted research and policy insights is indispensable to the health of the sector and the economy.
COSBOA urges policymakers to seize this opportunity to strengthen the ASBFEO, ensuring it can continue its vital work and foster a thriving future for small businesses across the nation.
