The Council of Small Business of Australia (COSBOA) today (17 September 2013) congratulated the Hon Bruce Billson MP on his appointment as Minister for Small Business and placement in the Cabinet.
Peter Strong, purchase Executive Director of COSBOA welcomes Mr Billson’s appointment.
“We are very pleased to see Mr Billson as our Minister, he has long been a supporter and advocate for people who own their own businesses. He will have to face strong opposition to make the significant changes small business people need in the areas of contract law, local retail monopolies and lack of competition in the retail supply chain and retail sector.
“Small business people are tired of rhetoric about the importance of small business people, rhetoric that has been rarely matched by outcomes. Mr Billson has the respect of the sector, will act as a supportive spokesperson and we know he will not shy away from debates that need to happen,” said Mr Strong.
The first of five task forces that will be set up to assist the Government in delivering its election promises was announced today.
Lead by David Gandolfo, from the Commercial Asset Finance Brokers Association of Australia (CAFBA), the Contract Taskforce will bring together key industry representatives to provide information and support to Mr Billson on contract processes and issues.
“The Shopping Centre Council and the Franchise Council of Australia in particular will be working hard to keep unfair contract processes in place and to maintain the ability for their members to bully and badger small business people without recourse. Rectifying this will be a key focus of the first task force,” said Mr Strong.
“Small business people deserve recognition not vilification, respect not dismissal and should enjoy the same right to a healthy job as any other person. We are putting in practical measures to make sure Small Business people get the support they need.”
Contract Task Force Members:
David Gandolfo- CAFBA
Lauretta Stace – CEO Fitness Australia
Andrew Conway – CEO Institute of Public Accountants
