Confidence Building for Small Business People Continues
COSBOA congratulates the shadow treasurer Joe Hockey, health on his Press Club address where he responded to the Government’s recent budget.
Amanda Lynch, Chairman of COSBOA said today “We were very pleased to see small business was the first thing Mr Hockey mentioned and was one of the main themes of his speech. In particular we support the idea of the tax office having an after hours number for small business people.”
COSBOA knows that small business people do most of their administrative and compliance work after they have finished their day in their business with their employees Access to support and advice after hours is essential to assisting 2.5 million people meet compliance demands and reduce fines and stress.
Peter Strong, Executive Director of COSBOA stated “We also support the payment of interest rate penalties for government agencies that do not pay small business on time. Cash flow is king in our world and if we can’t get the cash, which is our preference, at least we’ll get some interest.”
Ms Lynch also added ”The Coalition’s paid parental leave proposal gives small business employees access to provisions they have never had before and, importantly, this leave will eventually be funded from general revenue rather than from a special tax.”
Compliance costs and other issues important to the small business community will be discussed at the National Small Business Summit in Brisbane in July 2013. This summit will be attended by Chris Jordan, the Australian Tax Commissioner, Michael Schaper, Deputy Chair of the ACCC and Warren Mundy, a Commissioner from the Productivity Commission who is currently conducting a study into the engagement between regulators and small business.
