Now is the opportunity to get information to the Productivity Commission, and through them the government and the opposition, on regulators and their engagement with small business people. The survey is HERE or if the link doesn’t work go to http://survey.cosboa.org.au/.
We need as many responses as we can get to a survey of small business people. We know that small business people are hard to get to because we are busy running our business and dealing with regulators. But the more information the better informed will be government behaviours and policies.
Regulators include: The Fair Work Ombudsman, Fair Work Australia, Local Government health inspectors, safety inspectors, liquor licensing, development approval agencies, the ACCC, the ATO (Australian Taxation Office), ASIC, transport regulators and others specific to your business or industry.
The issues that are regulated include: pay and conditions, advertising, signage, licenses for a large number of issues, environment management, rubbish and garbage management, transport regulation, import and export activities, storage, food and hygiene, safety and health etc
Some of the issues that you may wish to address are:
the quality of regulators’ websites and their useability
the quality of other communications such as letters, newsletters, emails and the like
the attitude of the staff of the regulators – are they respectful or just plain bossy? Do they understand business needs? Do they communicate in a way that helps or hinders?
the usefulness of help lines
the useability of forms
